A local Los Feliz favorite in the line up is Yuca’s Tacos, who won the event in 2009. They have our vote …and you can give them yours too! This is also a great opportunity to taco taste a variety of types of tacos and L.A.’s finest.

In an effort to break 2010′s voter turnout, the Los Feliz Business Improvement District (LFBID) and the council have made arrangements with several restaurants and merchants to offer 20% discounts, along with other incentives to voters who visit with their “LOS FELIZ VOTES” sticker, which you would receive after successfully submitting your vote on “election day”. The Electric Lotus has been a Los Feliz staple for the past eleven years. What started out as one small room serving authentic Indian cuisine has since expanded into a full-fledged restaurant complete with bar and banquet area. When I decided what restaurant I wanted to visit for my first review, I immediately thought of the Electric Lotus. It is well known not just for its tasty food, but for its tantalizing atmosphere as well.

Papa’s Place is having their official “Grand Opening” tomorrow, Saturday, August 28, 2010. Doors will open to the public from 12 noon to 6pm, then a private staff meeting on Sunday, and regular working hours again on Monday (11am-9pm). The owner, Cengiz Karachua, has dedicated the unique Turkish-German Deli Style restaurant to his father, who served the Los Feliz community as the Golden Needle Tailoring for 23 years prior. His father had always wished for his son to open a restaurant and about two years after his passing, his dreams will be realized. An official menu had not yet been finalized, but the manager stated the Turkish – German take out style establishment will be unique. Sauerkraut and sausages…Mediterranean sandwiches…burgers..and a bakery!

dThe driving school on Hollywood Blvd and Vermont is scheduled to become the 1,100 sq ft. Covell Wine Bar, headed by Dustin Lancaster (Cafe Stella) and Matthew Kaner(Silverlake Wine). Covell is focusing on quality and intimacy; serving boutique wines and craft beer (and bottles “to go”). The idea is to support local West Coast breweries and small production wines. Wines will run about 5$-12$ a glass. The rotating wine selection will include “anything and everything, whatever we like,” Kaner says. “I’ve been doing this too long to discriminate; there’s great wine coming from everywhere.”

The Los Angeles Marathon is being held this Sunday, March 21, 2010. The course has changed a few times in the past two decades. This year holds a new route, nicknamed “stadium to sea”. It starts at Dodger Stadium, Lot G. The START LINE is located at the crosswalk in Lot G and runners are recommended to arrive at a minimum of 60 minutes prior to racetime. The race continues on through Los Feliz, moving towards Hollywood and West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and ending up in Santa Monica. Yuca’s on Hollywood has organized an “early morning cheer” to start off the support. They are offering a free cup of coffee, tea, or champurrado to all the supporters who show up early in the morning, with their pajamas. We would love to see you there chanting names off bibs (this year, runners will wear bibs with their first names written on them for all to see) and showing your enthusiasm.
