Starting Tuesday, April 2, 2013, Los Feliz Blvd. will begin the LA DWP Reliability Improvement construction project. This will replace the underground power infrastructure and is believed to prevent future power outages.

Starting Tuesday, April 2, 2013, Los Feliz Blvd. will begin the LA DWP Reliability Improvement construction project. This will replace the underground power infrastructure and is believed to prevent future power outages. Crews will commence in different phases, the first being only one working lane on Hillhurst Avenue. The only left turn drivers will be allowed to make at the intersection is from westbound Los Feliz Boulevard southbound onto Hillhurst Avenue. The left turn from Eastbound Los Feliz will be unavailable during the construction times, which start at 9 am and may go on through until 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The bus stop at the northeast corner of that intersection will also be relocated.

Phase 2 will start in May of 2013, where Los Feliz Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction between North New Hampshire Avenue to Cheswic Lane. There will be no left turn onto Los Feliz Blvd from Vermont.

All lanes are scheduled to reopen at the end of each work day, Los Feliz residents will be allowed to enter/ exit their driveways during construction, and all lanes will remain open during non- construction times. The project is expected to finalize in the fall.

Councilman Tom LaBonge says the project is necessary and urges drivers to take alternate routes. He commented, ”I personally, as a councilman, will accept all the congestion I could get as long as I get a new infrastructure.”

Glendale police were concerned that the driver would enter the Americana or Glendale Galleria when he entered the city, said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz. Lorenz said the suspect came to Glendale because he knew someone who lived in the city. “He wanted to give up here in Glendale,” he said. “He came here for a reason.” Lorenz said Glendale police turned the case over to LAPD after they apprehended the suspect. He was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The 31 year old man was released from Van Nuys jail early this morning, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, after posting $50,000 bail.

“With a boho-chic vibe, art-deco inspirations, and a creative yet diverse community, Loz Feliz Village is increasingly becoming one of the hippest and trendiest parts of LA. Located just east of Hollywood and south of the beautiful Griffith Observatory and Greek theater, the city is nestled between 2 major streets, Vermont and Hillhurst Avenue, and lined with adorable Euro-bohemian style cafes and boutiques. Indie celebs, creative masterminds, and local artistic junkies frequent the area with yoga mats in hand. Los Feliz is also close to its neighboring city called Silverlake; a hipster village with a similar vibe. Los Feliz Village truly is California’s own East Village of NYC. Some of our favorite restaurants include: Little Dom’s, Home, Saito Sushi, Alcove Cafe and Blair’s. Last July, the city also featured it’s first ever Los Feliz Fashion Festival which plays tribute to local fashion designers who partner with fashion bloggers to style and model their designs. For more information check out Los Feliz Today for all your inquiries from open real estate to trendy restaurants and lounges!

Check out Vogue and Vino for all they have to offer….you might find yourself tipsy on fashion!

SYNOPSIS:
Josh Radnor (CBS’s Emmy-nominated “How I Met Your Mother”) wrote, directed and stars in happythankyoumoreplease, a sharp comedy centered on a group of 20-something New Yorkers struggling to figure out themselves, their lives and their loves.

On his way to a meeting with a publisher, aspiring novelist Sam Wexler (Radnor) finds Rasheen, a young boy separated from his family on the subway. When the quiet Rasheen refuses to be left alone with social services, Sam learns the boy has already been placed in six previous foster homes and impulsively agrees to let the boy stay with him for a couple days. Dropped into Sam’s chaotic, bachelor lifestyle, Rasheen is introduced to Sam’s circle of friends; Annie (Malin Akerman) who has an unhealthy pattern of dating the wrong men, as well as an auto-immune disorder which has rendered her hairless, Mary-Catherine (Zoe Kazan) and Charlie (Pablo Schreiber) whose potential move to Los Angeles threatens their relationship, and Mississippi (Kate Mara), an aspiring singer/waitress who tests Sam’s fear of commitment. When Sam’s unexpected friendship with Rasheen develops, he realizes adulthood is not about waiting for the right answers to get the life you want, but simply stumbling ahead and figuring them out in the process.
Featuring a brilliant young cast and music from breaking indie musicians, happythankyoumoreplease deftly captures the uncertainty and angst of what it is to be young, vulnerable, and desperate to find out who you are – or perhaps more importantly, who you want to be.

More “big banking” is moving in, with more traffic and people! On Dec. 14, 2010 Hillhurst Los Feliz LLC is leasing the property at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd., which will be taken over by Chase beginning in June 2011 with a 10 year lease. Chase is leasing 5,800 sq ft of the 14,000 sq ft. historic property. The remaining 2,770 square feet is being marketed by Lee & Associates with a focus on a restaurant or specialty retailer. The total combined lease value is $5.3 million.

Hillhurst Los Feliz LLC purchased the structure in 2004 with the intent to re-entitle it for a mixed-use commercial/residential development. However plans changed when the property was designated a cultural historical building, as it was the last building standing that once housed a Brown Derby Restaurant. A renovation of the building currently is underway.

For more info, you may visit Lee & Associates online at www.lee-associates.com.

Farm Feliz in association with The Greater Griffith Park Neighborhood Council Green Committee presents: EAST SIDE ECO TOUR: Sunday, October 24th, 2010!
Do you have a home that you think ought to be on the 2nd East Side Eco tour? We need a few more homes. Do you want to share lessons that you have learned, with other homeowners in your quest to reduce your home’s eco footprint?

It’s simply an open house. You would open your home (or some part thereof) and visitors would come a see your gray water system, your solar power, your passive cooling, your compost, your organic vegetable garden, … well you get the idea.

Your home or business could be highly technical in its approach to footprint reduction or it could be some down to earth inexpensive lifestyle approach. Farm Feliz will provide you with a volunteer to help you “host” your home on the day in the event that you are shy or uncomfortable speaking in front of groups.
Go to see last year’s tour and the kind of sites that were on the tour. This is a free tour. Our goal is to allow anyone to see first-hand how they can begin footprint reduction.

Here are a list of sites on the tour as of now for this year:

1) The Leigh Jerrard Home – Los Angeles, CA 90027

2) The Julia Russell Home - 4344 Russell Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027

3) 4310 Finley Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027 (Great for Green Weddings)

4) The Whitmarsh and Salata Home in Highland Park – 1600 Avenue 6, Highland Park, CA 90042

5) Silver Lake Farms – A working farm in Silver Lake

6) The Susan House - 5930 Echo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042

The editors of Los Feliz Today asked a couple of members of the GGPNC for an update since the last elections in March. Jessica Kornberg has shared her progress and views with us below. Her words do not represent any offical views or opinions of the GGPNC or LosFelizToday. We do thank her for her time and efforts!

Thank you for your continued support. I’m pleased to have this opportunity to update you and your readers on our progress since I took office in May. Before I begin, please remember I am only sharing my own views, not any official message from the council.

I took office in May with an agenda for reform. I’m happy to share our progress so far:

Leadership:
In the wake of the elections there were significant gaps in the GGPNC’s leadership. The previous Treasurer, Vice President of Administration, and Secretary were not re-elected. The previous President and Vice President of Outreach both declined to continue in their posts. At the same time, the Chair of the Planning, Zoning and Historic Preservation Committee – one of our most active – also resigned. In short order we filled all these important roles and I’m happy to report it’s been a smooth and successful, though gradual, transition.

Budget & Finance:
When we took office the GGPNC was in the red and behind on our accounting. Thanks to tireless work by our new Treasurer Christina Khanjian and President Ron Ostrow, we now have a balanced budget, a comprehensive accounting, and are proceeding into a new fiscal year with much greater fiscal transparency and accountability.

Governance:
An important plank on our reform platform was changing the previous appointment process, which allowed appointed members to participate in the voting, creating what was called a “self-appointed” board. I’m happy to report this, along with an ethics training, was one of the first items passed by the new board.

All in all it’s been an extremely busy few months. We’ve got plenty more work to come, including getting a better community outreach system in place and filling our recently vacated Parks, River and Open Space Chair and Religious Community Representative positions. In the meantime, we’ve presided over and provided crucial support to a number of extremely gratifying community events, including the Independent Shakespeare Company’s summer series in Griffith Park, the completion of the Big Blue M at Marshall High, and beautification and public safety measures at Hoover walk and on Tracy Street, among others.

Thank you for your continued input and support!

Jessie Kornberg
Secretary & District Representative

"In light of what happened in Bell, I thought it was important for Los Angeles to set an example and post the salary of every city employee online," said Wendy Greuel, city controller.
The online posting of salaries was available as of last Friday, August 6, 2010, and lists every position in the City of Los Angeles sorted out by department, department title & salary. The individual employee names of each position are not mentioned. Greuel also said that the site will be update later this year, when actual employee furloughs and overtimes are factored in as well, for more of an accurate picture. Updates will continue, quarterly from that point on.

Salaries of the DWP employees are not included in this list, as they are not managed by the city controller’s office.
