Gastrobus at Los Feliz Farmer's Market

Gastrobus at Los Feliz Farmer's Market

Yes. You read correctly! All of the above mentioned and so much more were all in one lot at the Los Feliz Farmer’s Market. Located in the Vermont Post Office parking lot on Sundays, 9am to 2pm, this local market holds a variety of treasures for all sorts of taste-buds.

We were expecting to see a crowd of masses but to our surprise we were part of a handful that took advantage of this valuable find. As we walked in, we walked straight towards the rear of the lot to the Gastrobus, a roadside bistro. This family owned (Lana and Antonio Medina) yellow, gourmet lunch truck actually uses 100% organic produce purchased at the farmer’s market and prepares a menu of offerings for “Sunday Treats” based on availability.

This week we tried the savory Pear Almond Pancakes…we left wanting more!!  Definitely nothing either one of us  had tasted before! The Gastrobus’ menu this Sunday included items such as 100% organic eggs, Armenian Coffee (hot or iced), Citrus Salad with honey & mint, Yu Choy Sautee with garlic confit, quail eggs, and sweet potato hash. They had reasonable prices and  a selection of dishes to satisfy every Sunday Bruncher! You can watch Lana on our video segment of this blog describing the Gastrobus at the Los Feliz Farmer’s Market in her own words.

Then, there was the “France Bakery” offering chemical free bread. France Bakery offers traditional, authentic French Artisan bread with real starter (levain) imported directly from France. They specialize in 4 different sourdough breads, which are also yeast free.  Our favorites were the Rasin Hazelnut Sourdough and the Kalamata Olive Sourdough.  Alex’s Fruits and Nuts sells a countless number of types of Almonds, such as salted, lime, honey, BBQ, and raw.  Oxnard Produce had Sweet Asian Pears (the size of large grapefruits), two types of Strawberries (summer and winter…I didn’t even know they were different??) Bok Choy, Gai Lan, vibrant red Sweet Tomatoes, and so much more, all pesticide free.

Skyline Flowers offered a brilliant pallet of colors of  exotic “all California grown” ( not imported from South America) flowers.  They brought a smile to my face and the vivid colors would bring joy and sunshine to any room!  Charmed Scones served us “simply delicious” super moist scones. There seasonal flavors include Glazed Cranberry Orange and Peppermint Bark which were quite scrumptious!!

Daniel’s Choice served prepared foods that use all natural, organic ingredients with no animal products.  He boasts about the Eggplant Parmesan, where no taste or texture is compromised, and actual cheese products are not used, but the eater would not know the difference simply by taste alone .   The Mother-in-Law’s Tongue is a plant (also known as Sanseveria) which caught our attention.  The name, already set up for one liners you can’t refuse, put a smirk on our faces as we learned more about it.  Apparently it is called that because of its long and sharp leaves,( no insult meant to mother in laws) and can grow anywhere.  It is an elegant plant that is happy to stay in the same spot for years and really does not need too much care.   It also happens to be used as a remedy for hemorrhoids and intestinal parasites in some countries.  It can survive almost anywhere!!… This too was available at the Los Feliz Farmer’s Market for a low price!!

Then,  as we thought we ate and drank it all, we had some “Anti-Oxidant Coffee”.  Available in number of flavors, it claims to have less acidity than typical types of coffee beans which in turn reduce acid reflux and heartburn.

The Los Feliz Farmer’s Market was a delightful and fulfilling event.   It was originally started by filmmaker Helen Lee at behind the Dresden Restaurant on Vermont several months ago.  However, only recently did the Los Feliz Farmers Market move to the Post Office location where it is more visible to Los Feliz community and residents.  The venue is worth the trip and strollers are highly welcomed, however parking is not easy.  We urge you to stop by and check it out…it was a superb way to spend our Sunday afternoon!
