HIKE FOR THE HOMELESS…April 28, 2012 in Griffith Park!

Saturday, April 28, 2012, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will host the 2nd Annual “HIKE FOR THE HOMELESS”. This fund-raiser’s proceeds will benefit the new Family Housing Project for Women and Children and the Cardinal Manning Center for the homeless on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Over a thousand participants are expected to attend.
Hike Registration will start at 7am on Saturday, April 28th, 2012. There will be an Opening Ceremony and then the Hike will start at 8:30am. We’re looking forward to a great morning of hiking on April 28 and encourage everyone to come out and hike with us at this great family event,” says David Fields, the Executive Director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Registration fees are $30 for adults, $20 for Students/Youth (under 21) and $5 for pets on leashes. Registration is available at www.hike4thehomeless.com or by calling (213) 229-9963.
On the day of the hike, participants will receive their Hike for the Homeless t-shirt and lots of pre-hike snacks. They will check in for the hike and then will be entertained with live music and an opening ceremony, before sending them out to tackle the hills of Griffith Park. This year there will be an Easy/Medium Difficult Hike and a Challenging Hike. After the hikers have scaled the hill, they will be welcomed back by more live music and breakfast burritos. It’s going to be a great event!
Los Angeles City Council-member Tom LaBonge will again lead the hike through his beloved Griffith Park. “I grew up with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and attended it’s Circle V Ranch summer camp. They do great work and I’m proud to be part of their efforts to help people throughout Los Angeles during these tough challenging times,” says Mr. LaBonge.
